One of the most innovative groups in the new wave of UK jazz, Nimbus Sextet are bringing their electrifying blend of jazz, world and dance music to top venues and festivals across the UK & Europe. They are noted for continuously expanding their musical horizons, bringing varied musical influences into their progressive sonic palette.

DREAMS FULFILLED (Acid Jazz Records, 2020)

The core of the band’s sound comes courtesy of bandleader & composer Joe Nichols (keys/harmonica). Nichols signed Nimbus Sextet to Acid Jazz Records in spring 2019. The band’s breakthrough debut album DREAMS FULFILLED was released in autumn 2020, receiving critical acclaim from Jazzwise, Clash, Jazzed and radio stations worldwide. Singles ‘Trap Door’ and ‘Lily White’ featured heavily on the Jazz FM playlist for several months, and the album later won Jazz FM’s ‘Album Of The Week’. The HELIX EP followed in autumn 2021, which enjoyed plays on BBC Radio 6 Music.

FORWARD THINKER (Acid Jazz Records, 2022)

Nimbus Sextet’s second Acid Jazz album FORWARD THINKER was released in spring 2022 and marked with packed and sold out concerts at New Morning, Pizza Express Jazz ClubGlasgow Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. The album features top UK jazz musicians including Nathaniel Cross, Jackson Mathod and Steve Forman. Upon release, the band were propelled into the international spotlight. Live sessions at Radio France Internationale, BBC Radio Scotland and Jazz FM followed. Jazz FM also playlisted all three album singles and again awarded the band Album Of The Week, while prominent plays came from Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 and Radio Nova among others. The album gained rave reviews in France from Star Wax Magazine, Clique TV and Jazz Magazine, who described Forward Thinker as a “masterful album”. The band released a documentary from their album launch show at New Morning Paris, featuring live tracks from the concert and pre-show interviews.

The group’s subsequent 2023 single ‘Impulsive’ continues to be heavily streamed internationally on Apple Music with 100K+ plays. Their latest single ‘Searchingtopped the A List on Jazz FM’s playlist for three weeks, with major support from Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles playing the single for a further three consecutive weeks on BBC Radio 6 Music. Their version of the Roy Ayers Ubiquity classic is a collaboration with production duo Nuovi Fratelli (Wayne Dickson & Luigi Pasquini), who produced both of Nimbus Sextet’s Acid Jazz albums, and vocalists Russell Stewart and lissappear.

Following a full 12-date UK tour last summer, Nimbus Sextet will perform music from their hotly anticipated third album throughout 2024, which is due for release later in the year and will take their evolving sound to new heights.
